Bristol History / Genealogy



The Grundy Library houses a rich collection of materials pertaining to the history of Bristol Borough and surrounding areas. Many of these materials are available in the open stacks of the library, including:

  • Bristol city directories
  • Cemetery transcriptions
  • Bristol High School yearbooks
  • Bucks County Courier Times (1911-present on microfilm, Nov 2002-present online)
  • Obituary Index for the Bucks County Courier Times (1911-1962)

Bristol History Collection

The Library houses collections that are available by appointment only. These items include:

  • Photographs
  • Deeds
  • Maps & atlases
  • Rare local history books
  • Clippings & scrapbooks

Bristol Borough Municipal Records Collection

The Grundy Library holds a number of Bristol Borough municipal records, including Council Meeting minutes (1730-1998) on microfilm.

Research Services

The Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library offers several research services for patrons with information needs that go beyond the scope of the Library's public resources.

Local History Research Service

Patrons who require materials beyond what is available in the public area may request materials from the Library's clippings file and closed collections. If needed, a staff member will arrange an appointment with you.

Obituary and Article Research Service

For those patrons unable to come to Grundy Library, Library staff will research obituaries and/or articles. The Library has indexes for select years of the Bucks County Courier Times/Bristol Courier as well as for several other regional newspapers. If no index is available for the time period of interest, the Library requires a specific date and will search up to two weeks before and two weeks after that date for the obituary/article. Requests are limited to three individuals or articles at one time.

To request a search for an obituary or article, please submit a Newspaper Research Request.

Fee: $10 (includes postage). Please note that this fee is due in advance and is not refundable.
