Bristol "Then and Now" Virtual Scavenger Hunt

PrintPrint

The COVID-19 Pandemic of 2020 may have changed a lot of our plans for this year, making Historic Bristol Day different than what we are used to, but you can still celebrate our town’s rich history through a virtual scavenger hunt!

Scavenger Hunt begins on October 1, 2020, and ends on Historic Bristol Day, October 17, at 11:59 PM. October 31st. We have extended the deadline for participation until the end of this month!

Entries can be submitted via social media or email any time during this period. Be sure to tag us!

To access the images for the scavenger hunt, please click here to be taken to our Digital Collections website.

Rules for Participation:

  1. Print out the selected archival photographs of Bristol Borough landmarks.
  2. Visit Bristol Borough and see if you can find the current location of the historical image in town
    • Please honor traffic safety rules within the borough—stick to sidewalks and grass!
    • Please honor private property if you encounter it
    • Please adhere to all recommended social distancing guidelines—stick to family groups, wear masks, and overall, stay safe!
  3. Once you’ve found the “now” location of the business, building, etc., super-impose the printed photograph over top of what you see currently there. Try to match it as closely as you can! For an example of how to do this, please see the photograph of the Bristol Wharf below.
  4. After taking your “now” photograph with the “then” photograph included, tag the Grundy Library on social media—we are on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Don’t have social media, or your account is private? Send your entries to archive@grundylibrary.org
  5. Those who find all 20 locations by Historic Bristol Day (October 17) October 31st at 11:59 PM, will be entered into a drawing to win a gift card prize pack! Winners will be selected the week after October 31st and will be notified.
  6. By participating, you agree to allow the Grundy Library to publish these photographs as a digital exhibit within the “Bristol ‘Now’ Photographs” page. In addition, you are agreeing to release, defend, hold harmless, and indemnify Grundy Foundation, Library, and Museum from any and all claims involving the use of your submitted photo and/or likeness.
